Day14: King Muchukunda

King Muchukunda was a great warrior who had once helped the demigods in their battles. As a reward, they offered him a boon. Exhausted from years of war, he asked only for deep, undisturbed sleep—and a power that anyone who disturbed it would be burnt to ashes. Retreating into a mountain cave, he slept peacefully for ages.

Many years later, Krishna was battling the barbaric invader Kalayavana, who could not be killed by weapons. Knowing this, Krishna cleverly led Kalayavana into the cave where Muchukunda rested. Mistaking the sleeping king for Krishna, Kalayavana kicked him, waking him up. The moment Muchukunda opened his eyes, Kalayavana was reduced to ashes by the divine fire of his glance.

Krishna then appeared before Muchukunda and blessed him. The king, awed by Krishna’s presence, bowed and sought liberation. Krishna advised him to perform penance and leave behind worldly attachments.

By using Muchukunda to destroy evil, Krishna not only protected His devotee’s rest but also gave him a chance for spiritual progress—showing once again how the Lord works through His devotees with perfect purpose.
