The Hindu calendar follows the Moon cycle, while the normal English calendar follows the Sun cycle.
Every year, there is a difference of about 11 days.
So after nearly 3 years, these extra days become almost one full month. To balance the calendar, one extra month is added. That extra month is called Purushottam Month.
Just like the English calendar has a leap year, the Hindu calendar has an extra sacred month.
This month was once considered unwanted because no major festivals came in it. Lord Krishna blessed this month and named it Purushottam Month, making it very sacred.
Devotees believe that prayers and devotional activities done during this month give special spiritual benefits.
People spend more time in spiritual activities like:
Purushottam Month is like a special bonus month given by God to become more kind, peaceful, and closer to Krishna.
Even small good deeds done in this month are considered very valuable spiritually.
Purushottam Month beautifully combines science and spirituality. Scientifically, it helps balance the lunar and solar calendars. Spiritually, it reminds us to improve ourselves and remember God with devotion and gratitude.
