By ISKCON Bengaluru Sun, 24 May, 2026

Purushottam Month, also called Adhik Maas, comes once in nearly every 3 years.
Why Does It Come?
The Hindu lunar calendar becomes shorter than the solar calendar by around 11 days every year. To balance this difference, one extra month is added after about 3 years.
This extra month became known as Purushottam Month after Lord Krishna blessed it.

Main Focus

  • Spiritual purification
  • Extra devotion
  • Charity and seva
  • Chanting and prayer

What is Kartik Month?

Kartik Month comes every year and is considered especially dear to Lord Krishna and Srimati Radharani.

This month is famous for:

  • Offering lamps
  • Singing Damodar bhajans
  • Reading Krishna pastimes
  • Increased devotional activities

Many devotees observe special vratas and prayers throughout Kartik.
