Day 1 | The story of Bhakta Prahlada

By ISKCON Bengaluru Wed, 30 Jul, 2025

Long ago, there lived a powerful demon king named Hiranyakashipu who received a boon that made him nearly impossible to kill. Proud of his power, he declared himself God and demanded that everyone worship him. But his own son, Prahlada, was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. Even as a child, Prahlada fearlessly chanted the Lord's name and spread devotion. Furious, Hiranyakashipu tried to kill him in many cruel ways — fire, poison, wild animals — but Prahlada remained untouched, protected by the Lord.

One day, Hiranyakashipu angrily asked, “Is your God in this pillar?” Prahlada replied, “Yes, He is everywhere.” When the king struck the pillar, it cracked open with a thunderous roar. Out came Lord Narasimha — half-man, half-lion — who seized the king and killed him at twilight, on a threshold, with His claws, respecting every condition of the boon. Even after witnessing his father’s death, Prahlada prayed for his soul and asked for nothing but devotion. Pleased, the Lord blessed Prahlada and made him king. From that day on, Prahlada ruled with love and remembered how the Lord had protected him for his unwavering faith.
