Balarama Purnima - 19 August 2024

Balarama Purnima, also known as Balarama Appearance Day, is celebrated on the full moon day of the month of Shravana (August/September) in the Vedic calendar. It marks the auspicious appearance of Lord Balarama, the elder brother of Lord Krishna.


Lord Balarama, also known as Baladeva, is the elder brother of Lord Krishna and a prominent deity in Vedic culture. He is considered as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and is known for His strength, valour, and divine qualities. Lord Balarama carries a plough and a mace, symbolizing His role as the protector of the cows and the wielder of power.


In the Vedic scriptures, Lord Balarama is described as the original spiritual master and the source of all spiritual wisdom and His mercy is essential for one's spiritual progress. He assists Lord Krishna in His pastimes and serves as His closest friend and confidante. 


Lord Balarama's teachings emphasize the importance of serving and protecting cows, practicing nonviolence, and cultivating a pure and loving relationship with Lord Krishna. His divine presence and guidance inspire devotees to lead a righteous and spiritually fulfilling life. On this auspicious day, devotees offer prayers, perform kirtan and engage in acts of service and charity.
